Richard, the connector should have a latch that locks the ecm harness. Just unlatch to disconnect and pull out carefully.

Richard,

I have followed your guide above of this link which is very helpful, but I am now stuck on how to disconnect/unplug the harness wires from the ECU receiver. does the harness wire connector slide off to the side or does it pop off? please let me know asap as I am about to receive my performance chip for my 98 jetta VR6. thanks a bunch

Hello Rooster.

Most installations are similar. What changes is the location in the circuit of the EPROM chip to be replaced.

In some 2.0L computers, the chip is located on a flip board that is installed upside down, against the main circuit.

If it is a Bosch computer, it can be recognized by using a gray label, with the software number, which usually starts with "1267xxxxxx".

Some are socketed, but many are soldered in the circuit, so desoldering will be needed in most cases.

Cheers,

Richard
